Description
(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Parke County in western Indiana claims to be the " Covered Bridge Capitol of the World " with 32 structures like this still standing. Although some are now closed to vehicles, many are still used to cross small streams and creeks commonly found in farm country. Built when horse and buggies were still a form of transportation, the barn-like appearance did not frighten the horses and the roof provided shelter from sudden storms. Near the small town of Rockville, at the historic village of Billie Creek, I found the ... Beeson Covered Bridge.
