Description
(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) 1968 was not a very good year, especially for those of us in South Vietnam. But even there, occasionally we could have a good time. Like this hot and dusty day in December. We knew that Bob Hope had been taking USO Shows to combat zones since the early days of World War 2, but didn't know if we could get that lucky. Not very far from Saigon, my buddies and I got to this huge theater on the perimeter of Long Binh Post. Although it was several hours before showtime, we arrived to find the best seats were already taken. It didn't matter though, because we so desparately needed what we knew Bob would bring. We all needed to laugh and Bob was The Best comedian ever. We all needed Hope that we would survive this war and we all needed Hope that we would return to our families. Well Bob brought us all of that and much more. He even brought us Miss Universe, Ann Margaret and some pretty in pink ... Dancing Girls !
