(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Will Stephens built this house for his family in rural Florida, in 1912. He did so in the " Cracker Gothic " style which was popular from about the 1870s through the early 1900s. A fireplace was used for heat and the house was raised off the ground for natural cooling during the hot summer months. In 1982, this house was donated and moved to the Manatee Village Historical Park in Bradenton, Florida. There you can easily step back in time and see the church, courhouse, school, general store and other buildings which complete the village. I enjoyed it all one day and it was especially nice to see an earlier version of a classic American Dream. A simple but comfortable home with a ... White Picket Fence.
I created this image from my original photograph taken on location by adding digital enhancements, textures or other effects. These effects and image details will become more visible by clicking inside the green magnifier square as the cursor is placed over the image.
