(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Way back in the 19th century many immigrants from Germany moved west towards a growing city on the beautiful Ohio River. They established their homes, neighborhood and businesses in an area located just several blocks north of the river, which reminded them of a famous river in their home country. Just as in many cities across the United States, people move and former popular areas become replaced by newer ones. Sadly, the historic old neighborhoods soon begin to fall into neglect, emptiness and deterioration. Fortunately in recent years, city developers and businesses saw the value of this old neighborhood and began to restore the buildings for use by new stores, restaurants, bars, offices and living areas. Now this original German immigrant neighborhood is thriving and popular once again. About Mel Steinhauer
My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world.
