Along with the Vatican and St. Peter's, there are many large cathedrals and churches throughout the city. Somehow one day while walking about, I wandered off the normal tourist beaten path and found something I did not expect. Down a narrow street called the Via de Giabbon where the ancient Theater of Pompey once stood. That theater was a temporary meeting place for the Roman Senate which was also where the emperor Julius Caesar was assassinated. During the 11th century this catholic church was built to honor Saint Barbara of the Booksellers very near that location. It was a surprising discovery for me when I accidentally found ... My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world.
