(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) A visit to Hocking Hills State Park in southern Ohio, offered several pleasant surprises. A slow walk to Ash Cave was just one. Walking through a narrow gorge, along an easy pathway, by an almost dry creek bed was very peaceful. Once inhabited by Native Americans, early settlers named it when they found a huge pile of ashes. Because of the natural shelter and excellent acoustics, it was often used as a church before one could be built. Still today, couples choose to express their vows of love and be married in this beautiful spot. Early one morning, I saw a special tree in a special place, become illuminated by ... A Special Light.

My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world. Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision. This has compelled me to find beautiful scenes wherever I go and to share my favorite creations with others who may not have the time or...
