(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) High atop the Greek Isle of Santorini, lies the beautiful city of Fira. These bright patios are actually the rooftops of hotels and cafes built on the steep slopes of an ancient volcano. Many believe the legendary Lost City of Atlantis disappeared into the Aegean Sea during a tremendous eruption. This solitary chair and colorful flowers contrasted dramatically against the blue waters. Now I dream to return there just to violate a minor city ordinance, so someone of authority would sentence me to sit, in this ... Time-Out Chair.

I created this image from my original photograph taken on location by adding digital enhancements, textures and other effects. These effects and image details will become more visible by clicking inside the green square magnifier as the cursor is placed over the image.

My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world. Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision.
