(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) For some reasons that I do not understand, some people just like to put down or make fun of other cities around our country. Even though Ohio's 3rd largest city was the first U.S. city to have a full-time paid fire department and the first city to have a professional baseball team, it has occasionally been the punch line of jokes or unfavorable remarks. Even the great American author Mark Twain, who once worked at a printing office in the city was alleged to have stated "If the world would end, I would come to Cincinnati, for everything happens here ten years later.￿ Now I would tend to disagree as I have seen the city continue to progress and keep up with the rest of the world. My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world. Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision.
