Along County Road 30A you will find numerous small communities and 15 coastal dune lakes, which can only be found in a few places around the world. These are quite beautiful fresh-water lakes which lie very close to the Gulf of Mexico. Although it does not happen everyday, on some occasions the ocean tides will rise enough to actually flow into a channel leading inland to the lake. Tannic acid from vegetation around the lake adds a brownish tint to the clear water and mixes with the sea waters which then flows back into the ocean.
