(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Even before Kentucky became a state way back in 1792, rye farmer-distillers from Pennsylvania and Maryland settled in a beautiful area east of Lexington known as "Old Bourbon". That name carried over from Bourbon County in Virginia, which then became Kentucky when the new state borders were defined.
There, the production of corn whiskey began and as supplies exceeded local demand the surplus was shipped down the Ohio River to the Mississippi and eventually to New Orleans. From there it could then be shipped to the East Coast and even across the Atlantic to Europe. Now you know some real ... Kentucky Bourbon History.

My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form.
