(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Our New England State of Maine once had about 120 covered wooden bridges crossing small streams or rivers. Sadly today, there are only less than a dozen left standing. I found this one in Oxford County near South Andover on Covered Bridge Road. It was built in 1867 at a cost of only $ 743.47 and is a single span of the Paddleford Truss style. It also has the distinction of being Maine's shortest covered bridge as it crosses the Ellis River at a length of only 76 feet. Named after a family home located on the east bank of the river, they called it the ... Lovejoy Covered Bridge.

Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision. This has compelled me to find beautiful scenes wherever I go and to share my favorite creations with others who may not have the time or...
