(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) The coastal and marsh regions of South Carolina are abundant with natural beauty and wildlife. Although people are also abundant and often invade the natural habitats for birds like this great egret, they appear to have a mutual respect for each other. Early one morning at low tide in this quiet marsh, he knew I was nearby on the boardwalk. As the sun cast a golden glow, he briefly noticed me but then quickly returned his concentration to his task at hand. At times he was quite motionless, staring intently into the shallow water for fresh food and the catch of the day. My presence and the noise of my camera shutter clicking did not bother him in the least as he was indeed ... One With Nature.

About Mel Steinhauer
My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world. Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision.
