(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) For those of us who live in the city, we often enjoy escaping from the concrete and crowds by going to a nearby nature park. In the Tri-State Region of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana there are many such places for us to visit. The Cincinnati Nature Center covers over 1,000 acres of old-growth forests with 18 miles of hiking trails by lakes, streams and creek waterfalls. A popular time of year that I really enjoy is just after a long, cold winter and right before the heat of summer arrives. Bare trees are just beginning to sprout new leaves, but greenery and wildflowers are abundant everywhere. They even grow randomly and often where they should not, creating some beautiful scenery. About Mel Steinhauer
My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world.
