Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. (Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) While walking down narrow paths on the Greek Isle of Santorini, I came upon this colorful scene. I stood at the closed gate and marveled at the beauty of what I saw. This was someone's courtyard and home, so I did not want to intrude on their privacy. But that little voice in my head kept telling me to take the photograph. No one cared as I raised my camera and captured another quiet moment in time. The stone steps, reflections in the glass of the old wood doors and the textures created this scene, but it was completed by the ...Colors and Lace.
I created this image from my original photograph taken on location by adding digital enhancements, textures and other effects. These effects and image details will become more visible by clicking inside the green square magnifier as the cursor is placed over the image.

My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form.
