(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) While sight-seeing the many canals in Venice, you will find Gondolas parked, or taking tourists for slow rides around this beautiful city. But on the largest canal, or the Grand Canal, you will find the most. They became a stylish form of transportation hundreds of years ago and they are still built slowly by skilled craftsman with intricate carvings and detailed ornaments. Although Venice is a beautiful and colorful city, a 17th century law required that the Gondolas must all be painted black. My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home.
