This made it a popular destination for the old paddlewheel steamboats to ferry passengers back and forth from the city, before cars and good roads became available. As the banks of the river were heavily wooded, something was needed to help the steamboat captains find their way. So that's why just a few miles up river from Cincinnati at the entrance to a popular amusement park, they built the ... Old Coney Island Lighthouse.
