(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) The Great Smoky Mountains National Park happens to be the one that has the highest number of visitors each year. The popular tourist town of Gatlinburg is quite close to the park's entrances, and has many attractions. The town can become quite crowded, busy and noisy so I quickly escape to the nearby Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. Here, you can slowly drive your car along a one-way road deep in a forest of green. One day, I was able to enjoy the Sounds of Silence from man which were replaced by the pleasantly consistent Noises of Nature. As a beautiful mountain stream noisily flowed downhill, I was reminded of a popular song from the early 1970s by Simon and Garfunkel. You know the one, I think it's called ... A Bridge Over Bubbled Water.

My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form.
