(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Hundreds of years ago, wooden ships like this one set sail out into the vast ocean looking for new lands far from their homes in Europe. At that time little was known of what adventures those early explorers would find, or even if they would survive their journeys. They had to learn how to navigate by the stars and had to use incomplete maps, in uncharted waters. Surely there was much to learn in those days and of course they had to...Learn The Ropes.
I created this black and white image from my original color photograph taken on location by adding digital enhancements, textures or other effects. These effects and image details will become more visible by clicking inside the green magnifier square as the cursor is placed over the image.

My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home.
