(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Just off the southern Georgia coast you will find the scenic beauty of the Golden Isles. Jekyll Island is only 7 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, but has an abundance of wide, flat sandy beaches. There are also many centuries old Southern Live Oak Trees, like these covered in hanging Spanish Moss. Not long ago the dense and strong wood from these trees were used to make curved beams in the hulls of ships. The moss was used as insulation, mulch, packing material and stuffing for matresses. One sunny and warm spring day, this big old tree was just quietly doing its job so I really had it ... Made In The Shade.

About Mel Steinhauer
My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world. Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision.
