(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Small towns across America almost always had at least one movie theater in the heart of the downtown district. Adults and children alike would patiently wait for the latest movies to arrive, usually after they ran in the big cities. Unfortunately many of those iconic theaters have been torn down as they were ultimately replaced by the larger multi-screen complexes now located in the major shopping areas. But for us history buffs, some have remained, some have been restored and some are still being used today. Like this one named the Ohio in downtown Madison, Indiana. My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form.
