{Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Fortunately this now beautiful and historic building was not demolished, like so many others have been all across our country. This architectural masterpiece was originally a Union Hall way back in the day and for about four decades was home to the Cincinnati Color Company. During the 1940 - 50s, Cincinnati's most famous boxer trained here inside a gym on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Ezzard Charles became the Heavyweight Champion in 1950 when he took the title from Joe Louis. In later years the building became vacant and deteriorated as the years flew by. In recent years it was saved from that sad state and reborn. Located at 1400 Vine Street in the center of Over-The-Rhine district, the whole area is thriving once again with new restaurants, businesses, lofts and entertainment venues. Here in the heart of Cincinnati, city officials, developers and businesses have done much more than just ... Paint the Town Red.

About Mel Steinhauer
My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world. Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision.
