(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) On a beautiful day in October, I ventured out to a local park to look for the changing colors of the fall season. Every year is somewhat different than the last, as the most colorful time is often difficult to predict. I am no expert by far, however I guess it depends on the amount of rain, sunlight, wind or other conditions. I was amazed at what I discovered at the Boone County Arboretum in Northern Kentucky. Almost each day, the colors change somewhat and even intensify in only a week or several days. A morning sun easily brightens up the various shades of green, yellow, gold and orange. My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world.
