Artist's Description
(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) This old bridge between Newport, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio was built way back in 1872. It was the first bridge to carry trains over the Ohio River and was used by the L & N railroad. There was also a walkway for people and a road for horse-drawn carriages and trolleys. Later on of course, this roadway was used by cars and trucks. The last train crossed this bridge in 1987 and it was closed to all vehicle traffic in 2001 when it was placed on our National Register of Historic Places. After an extensive restoration it was re-opened to the public in 2003 for pedestrian traffic only. The official name is the Newport Southbank Bridge, but because of it's slightly unusual color, many locals just call it the Purple ... People Bridge.

Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world. Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision. This has compelled me to find beautiful scenes wherever I go and to share my favorite creations with others who may not have the time or...
