(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Early one morning, just across the road from the famous General Store, I found this colorful scene. A rising sun was casting a golden light down the hillside and for me it was like a little light coming on inside my head. Although I have been there many times, I guess I must have missed it. For many years the Rabbit Hash Historical Society and the people who work and live here, have all shared a common goal. Besides restoring and maintaining the old wood buildings damaged by floods and the passing of time, they dedicate their time and efforts to keep the history and nostalgia of our great country alive and well. My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world. Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision.
