(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) Venice, Italy is perhaps one of the world's most unique cities, as it was not only built near the water, but also right in it. Buildings that were obviously constructed hundreds of years ago, on wood pilings in a lagoon, are slowly sinking. However, no one seems to mind and life goes on. Locals still have to work, tourists still have to eat and flowers still have to grow. Not far from the famous Rialto Bridge over the Grand Canal and St. Mark's Square you will find this picturesque, romantic restaurant called the ... Trattoria Sempione.
I created this image from my original photograph taken on location by adding digital enhancements, textures or other effects. These effects and image details will become more visible by clicking inside the green magnifier square as the cursor is placed over the image.

My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world.
