(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) The Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers join at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to form the Ohio River. From there it flows primarily in a southwestern direction for about 900 miles where it empties into the great Mississippi River. River rafts and steamboats once carried cargo and passengers on their journeys from the eastern states to the west. Still today, barges transport coal, grain and other items up and down this great river. Quite often when all of the conditions are just right, the waters are very still and calm. About Mel Steinhauer
My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form.
