Artist's Description

(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) When most people think of Ohio they probably think a state far from the ocean would not have any lighthouses. But Ohio does lie along the southern shores of Lake Erie which happens to be the world's 12th largest freshwater lake. So surprisingly, there are 24 lighthouses still remaining in Ohio. At the tip of the Marblehead Peninsula at Sandusky Bay, I found the oldest lighthouse on The Great Lakes. Built in 1821, this classic structure was the only aid to navigation in this area for many years. Restored once again in 2001, the tower, light keeper's home, barn and grounds are now Ohio's newest State Park. So the next time you are not close to an ocean, but happen to be in Ohio you should head north towards Lake Erie and visit ... The Marblehead Lighthouse.

Ever since then I have been inspired with a new awareness of life and an improved photographic vision. This has compelled me to find beautiful scenes wherever I go and to share my favorite creations with others who may not have the time or...
