(Copyright Mel Steinhauer all rights reserved) The beautiful town of Sedona rests peacefully in the high Sonoran desert of northern Arizona. But the downtown area with many shops, restaurants and art galleries can get very crowded with noisy tourists. To get away from all of that you can take jeep tours or go hiking into the peace of Red Rock Country. These large sandstone monoliths all have names, usually for something their shape resembles. Like Coffeepot Rock, Bell Rock and Chimney Rock just to name a few. While walking along a sunlit and sparkling stream I discovered that places to worship are not always in the city, when I found ... Cathedral Rock.
I created this image from my original photograph taken on location by adding digital enhancements, textures and other effects. These effects and image details will become more visible by clicking inside the green square magnifier as the cursor is placed over the image.

About Mel Steinhauer
My love for photography began as a boy when I was taught the basics by my father. During a tour of duty with an Army Combat K9 unit in Vietnam, I bought a professional model Nikon SLR camera and dreamed of becoming an artistic photographer when I returned home. A family of my own and a new career put that dream on hold for many years, but I had always enjoyed photography as an art form. Then, after surviving another kind of war with cancer back in 1997, I began to really see the beauty in our world.
