The original government plan was to use this island as a fuel tank depot, so it was officially named Tank Island. However that plan never became a reality and years later this man-made island was sold to private developers. Every evening as the sun sinks slowly in the west, hundreds of tourists come to Mallory Square on Key West just to watch Nature's spectacle. Now you can easily see why they changed the name from Tank Island and why many people like to go... Sailing By Sunset Key.
